Proma Compact THC SD

The Proma Compact THC SD is a torch height controller for plasma cutters. This THC controller controls the Z-axis drive directly, the Z-axis drive’s step and direction signals have to be wired directly to the THC controller. Connect the plasma Voltage to the controller and set the control Voltage and the controller will produce the step/dir signals for the Z-axis motor controller to keep the torch height constant.

This new generation Proma Compact THC SD controller is based on the THC 150 Compact model with outputs generating signals Step / Dir according to the PID algorithm what provides a very smooth and rapid reaction – the movement speed of the axis is proportional to the slope of cut material. Step/dir signals are generated during cutting. When the cutting arc is not detected, the device transmits step/dir signals from the control system.

It can be used in 3-axis systems without the THC software function.

The connection method of a controller “beyond the software” allows you to use it with the software without the THC function.

Make sure that the machine is properly grounded. Plasma cutters generate voltage dangerous for human health and life. No grounding may result in electric shock and/or damage to electronic equipment.

Intended for use with any control system that uses STEP/DIR signals to control the Z-axis. Thanks to the integration with a voltage divider, the connection is very simple.

If connecting directly to the “power” terminals, you should ensure the connection as short as possible due to the formation of large disturbances.

You should also use test leads with proper insulation – matched to the maximum voltage of the plasma cutter. Because of the very high level of interference and voltage “pins”, it is recommended to supply the + and – potential by means of separate wires what minimizes the risk of dielectric breakdown.
