Install Checklist

An install checklist for South African workshops covering power, floor space, extraction, access, and operator handover basics.

How an install checklist keeps a CNC site ready

This Install Checklist helps a workshop get ready before the machine arrives. It covers power, floor space, extraction, site access, and the basics needed for a proper handover.

List the machine first, then note the material mix, available power, and the size of the loading area. A router cutting MDF needs different extraction planning from a mill handling aluminium, and a plasma table needs proper fume control and plate access. Workshops in Johannesburg, Durban, Cape Town, and smaller industrial parks often have site limits that only show up when doors, forklifts, and cable runs are checked properly.

Take clear photos of the install area before delivery day and mark the final machine position on the workshop layout. Include the incoming doorway, the electrical point, the compressor location, and the extraction route if one is planned. That record helps prevent missed access problems, short hose runs, and handover delays when the machine lands on site.

Checks before the truck arrives

This checklist should end with a simple site-ready list covering power supply, air, extraction, safe access, and space for maintenance around the machine. Add the machine model, controller type, and any tooling or consumables needed for first setup. Good install prep is less about paperwork and more about making sure the machine can be placed, connected, and tested without guesswork.

Keep the Install Checklist with the machine file and link it to any notes for the same unit before delivery is arranged. Confirm the machine name, site address, contact person, and what must be on hand for commissioning. A wide shot of the machine bay and the model number on the gantry let us size up your CNC setup.

  • Machine footprint marked in the correct bay
  • Power and air points checked on site
  • Operator handover items listed before arrival

Site conditions that affect installation

Many South African workshops have narrow access lanes, shared yards, older distribution boards, or limited crane and forklift availability. Record whether the machine must pass through a roller shutter, around other equipment, or over uneven concrete. If production is still running nearby, note noise, dust, traffic, and any safety controls needed during offloading and positioning.

Coastal humidity around Durban and Cape Town can change storage and cabinet protection requirements before commissioning starts. Inland workshops often deal with heavy dust, long cable runs, and power interruptions that affect controller startup and vacuum systems. For plasma installs, add ventilation direction, plate storage, and where sparks and hot offcuts will be managed.

Handover points to record

Use the install checklist to record floor space, power, extraction, air supply, and any site problems already picked up. Keep the subject line tied to the machine being installed.

Use the same checklist to capture who will receive operator training, where manuals will be kept, and which consumables should stay near the machine. Note the first test material, the extraction status, and any snags still open after placement. That gives the workshop a usable handover record instead of a loose set of site notes.
